Home Town in Winter
The winters in my hometown are very cold, and we get more snow in our town than Vancouver.
The snowy mountain you can see in the background is Mt. Hakuba in Nagano, the site of the 1998 Winter Olympics.
Traditional Japanese New Year’s dishes
On New Year’s in Japan, we eat something called “Osechi.” It is said that by putting a variety of foods that are considered to be auspicious into the meal and eating it as a family, we will live happily for a year. Nowadays, the process of making it at home has become less common, but my family makes Osechi by hand every year.
Japanese Countryside
The Japanese countryside has a very nice atmosphere and is very relaxing. Rural landscapes called terraced rice fields spread out before you, and you can see the rice cultivation method unique to mountainous regions.
